A dog, a cat, a mouse and a pig were bored one night and decided to have some fun.
They agreed to play a game of hide and seek. Dog volunteered to be the seeker, since he had the best sense of smell. He counted to ten while the others ran off to find hiding places.
Cat climbed up a tree and hid among the branches. Mouse squeezed into a hole in the wall of a nearby house. Pig ran as fast as he could, but he was too big and slow to find a good spot. He saw a pile of hay and decided to burrow into it.
Dog finished counting and started looking for his friends. He sniffed the air and caught cat’s scent. He followed it to the tree and barked loudly. Cat jumped down and ran away, hoping to find another place to hide. Dog chased after him, but cat was too agile and quick. He dodged dog’s bites and scratched his nose.
Mouse heard the commotion and peeked out of his hole. He saw dog and cat running around and decided to join the fun. He ran out of his hole and darted between dog’s legs, tickling him with his tail. Dog yelped and tried to catch mouse, but mouse was too small and fast. He ran back into his hole and laughed.
Pig heard the noise and wondered what was going on. He poked his head out of the hay and saw dog, cat and mouse playing. He wanted to play too, but he knew he was no match for them. He thought of a clever idea. He looked up at the sky and saw the moon shining brightly. He decided to pretend that he was the moon.
He climbed out of the hay and stood on his hind legs. He stretched his neck and opened his mouth wide. He made a loud oinking sound that sounded like “Ooooonnnn”. He repeated this several times, hoping to attract his friends’ attention.Dog, cat and mouse heard the strange noise and stopped their chase. They looked around and saw pig standing on his hind legs, oinking at the sky. They were puzzled and amused by his behavior. They approached him cautiously and asked him what he was doing.
Pig smiled and said, “I’m the moon! Can’t you see? I’m shining bright in the night sky!”
Dog, cat and mouse looked at each other and burst into laughter. They realized that pig was joking with them. They praised him for his wit and humor. They joined him in oinking at the sky, pretending to be moons.
They had so much fun that they forgot about their game of hide and seek. They decided to play another game instead: who can make the loudest oink? They oinked with all their might, making a racket that woke up the whole neighborhood.
